Experimental preservation is contemporary but it is rooted in earlier attempts to put new cultural and historic objects into our collective consciousness 12 experimental preservationists choose objects which are already out there in the world but for whatever reason have dropped out of contemporary culture and do not circulate in our everyday . Old things historic things smelly dirty things all the things that were considered the very opposite of contemporary have suddenly irrupted forcefully into architecture and art blurring their boundaries this book takes stock of the emerging generation behind this turn and examines their experimental engagements with the preservation of culturally charged objects. He is professor and director of historic preservation at gsapp his work has been commissioned by and exhibited at major museums foundations and biennials notably the 53rd venice art biennial victoria and albert museum louis vuitton galerie museum artangel trust thyssen bornemisza art contemporary and the yerba buena center for the arts.
